Biography

Dr Amin Keshmiri is an Iranian-British conductor, multi-instrumentalist, composer and researcher based in the United Kingdom. He began playing the violin at the age of 4 despite the difficulties of studying music in Iran. Dr Keshmiri studied at Isfahan Music High School and was the leader of Isfahan Symphony Orchestras conducted by Majid Entezami himself, Isfahan National Orchestra, Pegah Symphony Orchestra, Payvar ensemble, Isfahan Music School's Symphony Orchestra and in various chamber ensembles. In 2009, Dr Keshmiri moved to the United Kingdom to continue his studies. He gained a BTEC National Diploma from Leeds Conservatoire in 2011 and won the "The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Trust" award in the same year. During this time, Amin continued his studies as a conductor and a violinist, studying with world-class musicians such as Simon Fischer, Dr Mieko Kanno and Dr Alastair Mitchell.

 

Apart from being involved with chamber groups and various orchestras as a violinist and soloist, Amin has been conducting orchestras at the RCS as well and has studied with great conductors such as Christian Kluxen, Garry Walker, David Danzmyr and Sian Edwards. He soon founded and established his own orchestra, ASO "Arezoo Symphony Orchestra" to introduce and promote Persian Classical music.

As a violinist, Amin has appeared as a soloist with a numerous orchestras and ensembles such as Sale Chamber Orchestra, Palestine Youth Orchestra, Arezoo Symphony Orchestra, just to name a few. He also played in numerous projects with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra supported by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He has also performed at the opening ceremony of the Edinburgh Iranian Festival (2015-2017) which included a performance with Darya Dadvar.

 

As a composer, Amin has been writing a large portion of orchestral music, including his first Symphony and a “Persian” piano concerto. He has also been composing music for films such as “The Scribbler” which won the best “drama” award at the Royal Television Society. He has worked with some of the greatest musicians including Shahram Nazeri and Pedro Eustache. In 2015, Dr Keshmiri has also been nominated for a BAFTA for the best music for Motion Picture.

 

Amin defended his doctoral studies, a joint degree awarded by the University of St Andrews and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His research includes the performance of Iranian microtonal music on Western instruments such as the violin and in the context of an orchestra and was mentored by the triumvirate of professors Alistair MacDonald, Andrea Gajic and David Watkin.

In 2017, Dr Keshmiri was a recipient of the "World Peace Tartan", Presented by Victor Spence.
